Rediscovering Family Traditions
Rashieda Parenzee’s journey into koesisters began when she decided to step away from her job to spend more time with her family. As a single mother, juggling work and home life had been exhausting, and she wanted to reconnect with what truly mattered: family, heritage, and the simple joys of home.
During her two years at home, Rashieda’s older sister, who had long made doughnuts and koesisters, suggested she try baking them herself. Though hesitant at first, Rashieda followed her sister’s guidance, learning the delicate art of twisting dough, balancing syrup, and perfecting the spice. Once confident, she shared her creations in local community chats, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. A year later, she continues to bake every Sunday, supplying her community and keeping the cherished koesister Sunday tradition alive.
Rashieda admits she never imagined she’d enjoy making dough, but now she finds herself baking more than planned, driven by the joy it brings to her family and neighbours. Her recipe, adapted from her sister’s, can be customized for each batch, a personal touch that her customers love.
For Rashieda, koesister Sundays are more than a tradition. They are part of her family’s rhythm. Childhood memories of aunties and uncles gathering for tea and koesisters inspired her to create the same warmth for her own children. Today, her kids eagerly anticipate Sundays filled with fresh koesisters, and her son has even encouraged his sister to learn the recipe, ensuring the tradition will continue for generations.
Through every batch she makes, Rashieda is baking love, family, and heritage into her koesisters, turning Sunday mornings into a celebration of togetherness, connection, and joy.
