Lee is a second-year Bachelor of Arts student at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) who grew up with the sweet traditions of Cape Malay Sundays, where koesisters were more than just a treat — they were a symbol of family, culture, and community.
She noticed countless talented home bakers making these delicious koesisters, yet their skills and stories often went unnoticed. Behind every batch was a history, a family recipe, and a passion that deserved to be shared with a wider community. Lee realized there needed to be a way to give these bakers visibility, to connect them with people beyond their own streets and suburbs. That’s when the idea for The Koesister App began to rise — a platform not only to order koesisters, but to celebrate the culture, traditions, and people who keep this Sunday ritual alive.
With this platform, Lee’s mission is simple: to shine a spotlight on these hidden gems, celebrating their craft and connecting them with people who appreciate the love, heritage, and tradition poured into every koesister.
